They’re both members of the Tutti Brass Quintet and their opening. He has just completed his Grade 4 Royal Irish Academy exam and was recently awarded 1st place in the under 17 Brass competition at the Arklow Music Festival. Harry Flanagan, a third year student of the Abbey Community College is also a student of Julie Quinlan. Matthew Kirwan is all of nine years of age and is a pupil of Julie Quinlan. This performance included individual, duet and ensemble performances that were nominated by the SETU Music School staff from Performance Week.Īnd what a mix of performances we had. It’s wonderful to see so many adults either returning to music lessons or taking those first steps on their music journey. One of the upsides to Covid is that it afforded people the time to fulfil a lifelong ambition to play an instrument. The 2023 Performance week also saw the introduction of an ‘adult only’ concert.

It was also a very big moment for students who had joined the school since 2020, as many of them were not only experiencing their first Performance Week, but also their first live performance in front of an audience! It was a busy week for everyone, students, teachers, accompanists and parents. SETU Music School hosted their first post-covid Performance Week recently – a series of 12 concerts over five days in their new venue in the Dance Studio. It’s the time of the year when the Music School celebrates the musicianship of its students. It’s also crucial in the development of players that ensemble performance is available in a school that fosters excellence. It’s extremely important that any future development of the college should retain this school as a hub of musical excellence. It’s a thriving community of players that performs on the local, national and international stage with many of its graduates involved in performance, lecturing and research. From its humble beginnings, in the A corridor of the old Waterford Regional Technical College (WRTC) with a handful of students, the school has now some 500 students, four orchestras, six choirs as well as traditional and jazz groups.
